The Lion King Box Office Collection Day 3: Disney's Latest Offering Rakes in Rs 54.75 Crore, Becomes the Second Hollywood Film This Year To Surpass the Rs 50 Crore Mark in the Opening Weekend
Directed by Jon Favreau, The Lion King is the fourth Disney film to release in India this year which has turned out to be a crowd puller. Earlier, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame and Aladdin got cash registers ringing in India.
While Hrithik Roshan's Super 30 is going strong at the ticket windows along with Shahid Kapoor's Kabir Singh, from Hollywood it's The Lion King that's minting big money at the Indian box office. The animated live-action remake of 1994 Disney classic released last Friday and took a big opening at the domestic box office. In fact, the film trended better than Spider-Man Far From Home and raked in Rs 11.06 crore on day 1. Over the weekend, the Hollywood biggie performed even better and ended up surpassing the Rs 50 crore mark in the first three days itself. Just a while back, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and announced the updated figures. He wrote, "#TheLionKing sets the BO on 🔥🔥🔥... Proves all forecasts/predictions wrong, as biz crosses ₹ 50 cr in 3 days... Trends much, much better than #TheJungleBook [₹ 40.19 cr]... Fri 11.06 cr, Sat 19.15 cr, Sun 24.54 cr. Total: ₹ 54.75 cr. India biz. All versions."
He also tweeted, "#TheLionKing is the second #Hollywood film to cross ₹ 50 cr NBOC [opening weekend] in *2019*... By collecting Rs 54.75 crore, The Lion King has also recorded the third-highest opening weekend collection for a Hollywood film in India which is mighty impressive. Avengers: Endgame holds the record of registering the highest opening weekend collection for a Hollywood film in India whereas Avengers: Infinity War is second on the list.
