The Equalizer 3 released in theatres on September 1. The action thriller film directed by Antoine Fuqua, is sequel to The Equalizer (2014) and The Equalizer 2 (2018), and stars Denzel Washington as Robert McCall, a former government agent who uses his skills to help those in need. The film also stars Dakota Fanning, David Denman and Sonia Amma. Having said that, the reviews for The Equalizer 3 are mixed. Some critics have praised Washington's performance and the film's action sequences, while others have criticised the film's predictability and lack of originality. NYTimes: "Although the locations and supporting actors are generally new, nothing else is, familiarity being part of the appeal of this kind of genre standard. Once again, a broodily charismatic, patriarchal American loner serves as jury, judge and executioner, meting out punishment to the wicked and avenging the wronged. To that end, it is instructive that you don’t learn why McCall is in Italy until very late."

Collider: "While the latest Equalizer film may not live up to the previous two installments, it still comes pretty close. The story is nearly nonexistent for much of the runtime, but it does make up for that by having some of the trilogy's most gory sequences to date. The violence is almost on the level of a Saw movie and the amount of tonal whiplash between scenes of Washington buying fish at the local market to dismembering bad guys isn't going to convert anybody who wasn't big on the previous installments." The Independent: "Fuqua at least makes the most of his stereotypical, Roman Catholic fever-dream rendering of Italy. Blood splatters across a stained glass depiction of the Virgin Mary. Our hero seeks absolution under the watchful eyes of stone angels. He’s reintroduced to audiences bathed in a single beam of light, as if blessed by the warmth of the divine."

IGNIndia::The Equalizer 3 ends the trilogy strong with a style, energy, and cohesiveness that most sequels aren’t capable of. Fuqua and Washington’s circle feels complete and delivers a showstopping dessert at the end of a solid three-course meal they’ve been preparing for almost a decade."

The Guardian: "Don’t worry, it’s fine, they’re all mafia. McCall lands in a postcard-quality seaside town by the Sicilian shore after an assignment gone belly-up, and takes it upon himself to purge the area of the organized criminals forcing everyone out to make room for developers. He finds this charming hamlet worth fighting for, with its simple, purehearted residents seemingly plucked from the rose-hued romanticism of Cinema Paradiso."
