Tom Holland returns to play the friendly neighbourhood superhero in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Tom Holland returns to play the friendly neighbourhood superhero in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Joining him as part of the new cast is the antagonist Mysterio played by Jake Gyllenhaal. Now Gyllenhaal's role is a little mysterious, much like the name. However, seems as though he has teamed up with Spider-Man to fight against the Elementals. And as the release date of the film nears, the makers of Spider-Man have released a new still where the two are seen shaking hands. They seem to be forming some sort of alliance in order to fight against the Elementals.
In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Jon Watts who has returned to reprise his role as the film's helmer, stated, “Peter’s ready for a vacation at the beginning of this movie, to say the least. This film is about the world telling him, ‘It’s time for you to step up and grow up, kid,’ and he’s saying, ‘But I still want to be a kid and go on vacation.’”
Revealing more about Gyllenhaal's Mysterio role, director Jon Watts added, “If Tony Stark was sort of the mentor in the previous films, we thought it would be interesting to play Mysterio as almost like the cool uncle.” On the same, Holland also quoted, “If you look at any interview I’ve ever done prior to this movie and someone asked me, ‘Who would you work with if you could work with any actor?’ I would’ve said, Jake Gyllenhaal. And when I found out it was him, I was stoked, but also really nervous. But Jake absolutely was more than I ever could have expected.”
Spider-Man: Far From Home is set to release on July 2. The film also stars Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon, Joon Favreau, Samuel L Jackson, Cobie Smulders, to name a few.
