While two Bollywood movies are currently having a good run at the Indian box office - Shahid Kapoor's Kabir Singh and Ayushmann Khurrana's Article 15 - yesterday Hollywood biggie Spider-Man: Far From Home also made its way to the cinema halls. Starring Tom Holland in the lead, the 23rd MCU film has been directed by Jon Watts and also features Jake Gyllenhaal, Zendaya, Samuel L Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, JB Smoove, Jacob Batalon, Martin Starr and Marisa Tomei in supporting roles. The superhero flick opened to pretty much good reviews and got cash registers ringing as well at the ticket windows. The film grossed Rs 12.10 crore at the box office which is quite impressive. Revealing the first-day figures on Twitter, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on the popular microblogging site, "#Hollywood continues to consolidate its presence in India... #SpiderManFarFromHome casts its web at the BO... Embarks on a flying start... Thu ₹ 10.05 cr Nett BOC [1945 screens]. India biz. All versions. Gross BOC: ₹ 12.10 cr. #SpiderMan."
He also tweeted, "#SpiderManFarFromHome highlights...Non-holiday release [Thu] Opens in double digits [₹ 10.05 cr] NBOC...The biggest opener in the #SpiderMan franchise. India biz." While the latest Spider-Man offering has done well on its opening day, a lot will depend on how it performs over the weekend. If the film doesn't witness an upward trend then it will have a tough time putting up a good total in India. Last week, it was Annabelle Comes Home that released in India and the horror film ended up doing a business of around Rs 25 crore in the first week which isn't too bad. However, on Thursday, the movie took a big hit at the BO because of the Tom Holland starrer and now it won't be long before Annabelle ends its theatrical run in India.
