The award season has officially kicked off with Golden Globes 2020 and the ceremony was recently held in Beverly Hills, California on January 5. The awards are known to honour the best of cinema and TV and it was indeed one starry evening as who's who of Hollywood descended on the red carpet. With Ricky Gervais as the host for the evening, the jokes spared no one from Hollywood. But it was none other than English actor and comedian, Sacha Baron Cohen who stole the show with his statements on Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. The comedian was presenting a clip package for Jojo Rabbit when he used the platform to slam the creator of Facebook. Cohen began his introduction speech saying, “The hero of this next movie is a naive misguided child who spreads Nazi propaganda and only has imaginary friends. His name is Mark Zuckerberg.” This was received with some awkward laughs from the Globes audience. After which he further added, “Sorry, sorry. This is an old intro for The Social Network. I’m actually talking about Jojo Rabbit. It’s nominated for two Golden Globes and it’s directed by its star, the brilliant and groundbreaking Taika Waititi.”
The video is now going viral on social media and netizens are hailing his confidence and almost loved it so much that many are hoping the British actor gets to host the awards next year. This is not the first time Sacha Baron Cohen has taken on Facebook. Earlier, he had delivered a powerful speech at the Anti-Defamation League’s Never Is Now summit in November where he called out Zuckerberg for facilitating the spread of hate around the world.
