The Pretty Woman actor, Richard Gere, 68, is reportedly set to become a dad again. The Hollywood screen icon is expecting his first child with wife Alejandra Silva, 35, claims Spanish daily newspaper ABC. The actor married the Spanish publicist in April after four years of dating, in an Indian-inspired ceremony at his ranch outside of New York. The couple each have kids from their previous marriages.
While the couple are yet to officially comment on the baby reports, both Richard and Alejandra already have children from previous relationships. Richard has 18-year-old son Homer from his marriage to second wife Carey Lowell, while Alejandra has five-year-old son Alberto from her first marriage to Govind Friedland. Richard was also married to supermodel Cindy Crawford from 1991 until 1995 before tying the knot with Carey in 2002. The couple, however, split in September 2013 and got divorced in 2016.
Richard and Alejandra met at a luxury Italian hotel the publicist had bought with her former spouse and was managing at the time. According to the report, it is not yet clear if the child would be born in Spain or the US, where Silva is now believed to be based most of the time. Gere will celebrate his 69th birthday at the end of this month.
On being married to Alejandra, Gere said, “I am the happiest man in the universe, how could I not be?” For her part, Alejandra told Hola magazine in September 2016: “Richard has been my hero in real life. I was a little lost, without light and meeting him gave sense to my life. I felt like someone was stretching out his hand and showing me the true path.” Silva is an activist who runs a charity that aims to eradicate homelessness in Spain.
