Chewie has accompanied the trio in all of their adventures and though, it has been years now, since the character was introduced to fans, the hunger for more thrill and action has not reduced a little. It was Peter Mayhew, who had given life to the iconic character, since 1977, when the first movie in Star Wars franchise Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, was released. Mayhew is popularly known for his portrayal of the more than 200-year-old Wookie Chewbacca. It has been reported that Mayhew had undergone spinal surgery in July in an effort to improve his mobility. His official Twitter account shared the news on April 2. Although he did not voice, many credit the body language and expressiveness of the eye as the actor brought to the role in making Chewbacca a beloved character. Mayhew left behind his wife, Angie and three children. As per reports, a private memorial will take place on June 29, and there will be gathering for fans at Empire Con LA this December.
