Spike Lee won the Oscars for the Best Adapted Screenplay for his satirical drama on race and identity BlacKkKlansman. The film is based on the 2014 memoir Black Klansman by Ron Stallworth. This is the first time that Spike Lee has won a non-honorary Oscar in his 30 year career. And the award is well deserved. However, it is his speech at the 91st Academy Awards that is being applauded by one and all. Lee, in his acceptance speech said that, "The 2020 presidential elections are round the corner... Make the moral choice between love versus hate. Let’s do the right thing!" Spike Lee has also been nominated in the Best Director's category and his film BlacKkKlansman is in the running for the Best Picture trophy too.
BlacKkKlansman is Spike Lee's brilliant take on the issue of race and identity in America. A black man infiltrating a Ku Klux Klan group in Colorado through a Jewish cop forms the premise of this film. Helped by the amazing direction and humour by Spike Lee, BlacKkKlansman becomes a most enjoyable movie experience.
