The Academy Award 2019 nominations are here!
The Academy Award 2019 nominations are here! The Oscars awards are generally considered as the most prestigious award show on Earth, the one that even prompted 'I Hate Award Shows' Mr Aamir Khan to attend one when his movie Lagaan was nominated for the Best Picture in Foreign Language in 2002 (and lost to No Man's Land). While Oscars always love to choose the creme de la creme among the critically acclaimed movies, for the past couple of years, there has been a serious dearth of 'great' movies in consideration. People have accused the Academy of choosing films for the highest honours that do not have a long shelf life. Or ignore films that are lapped up by the masses. Like for example, last year's biggest hit, Avengers: Infinity War! Oscars 2019: Indian Producer Guneet Monga’s Documentary on Menstruation ‘Period End of Sentence’ Nominated for Academy Award.
This year's nominations were led by some of the expected choices like Alfonso Cuaron's Roma, Bradley Cooper's A Star is Born, Yorgos Lanthimos' The Favourite, Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman, Marvel's Black Panther, Adam McKay's Vice lead the list with maximum nominees. While Roma and The Favourite have 10 nominations each, A Star is Born and Vice have eight nominations. Black Panther enjoys the honour of having seven nominations for itself.
