In some time, we are going to have the nominees of the Academy Awards 2019 (or Oscars 2019) announced in Hollywood. The event will be hosted by actors and standup comedians, Kumail Nanjiani and Tracee Ellis Ross, who will announce the nominees from Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The actual award ceremony will be held in February, and nominations will be announced for all the major categories like Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Actress categories (both Leading and Supporting), Best Score, Best Editing, Best Animated Feature and so on. Oscars 2019: After Kevin Hart Steps Down, Academy Awards to Continue Without a Host?

So which film do you think will take the lead here? We already have had award ceremonies like Golden Globes 2019, British Academy Film Awards 2019, Critics' Choice Movie Awards et al that gives us some idea on which movies are going to dominate the nominees, unless the Academy jury wants to jolt us with some very left-hand choices. There is no doubt that some very favourite films like A Star is Born, Roma etc will take the lead in the nominations, though the competition is quite strong. Critics' Choice Awards 2019 Complete Winners List: Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma, Black Panther, Lady Gaga Take Home Maximum Accolades.

Here are what we think are the 10 films that will preside over the nominations.

A Star is Born

Bradley Cooper's musical film is one of the most acclaimed movies of last year. The movie has been a favourite in the award ceremonies and is most definitely going to get nominations for Best Film, Best Director (Bradley Cooper), Best Actress in a Leading Role (Lady Gaga), Best Song, Best Original Score, and also score for the Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Sam Elliott).

BlacKkKlansman

Spike Lee's take on the racism in the '70s make for a darkly comical and thrilling watch. The movie would look at dominating these categories - Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (John David Washington), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Adam Driver), Best Adapted Screenplay for sure.

Roma

Alfonso Cuaron's Spanish indie film is not only going to score high with the nominations, but has the potential to get away with the big trophies of the night. While acting honours may not come in its favour, Roma could find itself nominated for Best Film, Best Director and most of the technical categories.

Black Panther

Black Panther could be the first superhero film to get an Oscar nomination for Best Picture, not even The Dark Knight can claim that! It might also get nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Michael B Jordan), Best Soundtrack and a couple of the technical categories like Achievement in Visual Effects, Sound Editing et al.

Bohemian Rhapsody

The Freddie Mercury biopic may have not done well with the critics, but it was a big hit and has done well at the Globes 2019. We can't expect the film do that well with the oscars, but there is a high chance that it may score nominations in the following categories - Best Actor in a Leading Role (Rami Malek), Best Sound Design, Best Soundtrack. There might be a chance that it could score a Best Picture nomination too!

Green Book

While heart-warming, Green Book had never been touted for an award material. And yet, it has been doing surprisingly well at some of the recent award ceremonies. At the Oscars, Greek Book can snag for itself Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Mahershala Ali), Best Adapted Screenplay, and also perhaps, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Viggo Mortensen) and Best Film.

Vice

The biopic of former Vice President Dick Cheney was meant to be a frontrunner for Oscars, however, the mixed reviews did put some dent into its bid. That said, Vice is going to score well in the acting categories, especially Best Actor in a Leading Role (Christian Bale), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Sam Rockwell, Steve Carrell) and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Amy Adams).

The Favourite

The British royal dramedy was one of the best-reviewed films of 2018, Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos of The Lobster fame, The Favourite could steal the nominations in the following categories - Best Picture, Best Actress (Olivia Colman), Best Supporting Actress (Rachel Weisz or Emma Stone), Best Director, and Best Screenplay.

First Man

First Man was a superb effort by Oscar-winning director Damian Chazelle about the journey to the moon by the first man, the late US astronaut Neil Armstrong. However, its underperformance at the box office may work against its favour for the jury (not that they ever cared for it). First Man will most definitely dominate all the technical categories like Best Achievement in Visual Effects, Editing, Sound Design, Cinematography etc. If the jury is just, it should also bag nominations in Best Director, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Ryan Gosling) and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Claire Foy).

Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse

There should not be any doubt that Sony's animated feature not only deserved Best Animated Feature Film, but should also win it! Also, it should also bag noms in Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

The Oscar nominations will be announced at 5:30 am PT, which means around 7 pm Indian Standard Time. So watch this space for the final list of nominees and see if our predictions came true!
