The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have narrowed down it to the final nominations at the 91st Oscars. The final nominations have been revealed. Just because Rajkummar Rao's Newton was outed from the category at an early stage, it doesn't mean that we don't have anything to look forward to. Indian filmmaker Guneet Monga's short documentary Period End of Sentence has made it to the final five. The movie, co-produced by Monga, has been nominated in Best Documentary (Short Subject) category. Other movies nominated in the same category at the upcoming Academy Awards are Black Sheep, A Night at the Garden, Endgame, and Lifeboat.

Guneet Monga under her banner Sikhya Entertainment has earlier produced films like The Lunchbox and Masaan. Period End of Sentence has been directed by Rayka Zehtabchi. The movie, 26 minutes at length, tells the story of women in a village India, Harpur, and their own journey of installing a sanitary pad machine.

Rayka Zehtabchi's directorial Period End of Sentence has already won an award at Cleaveland International Film Festival, Audience Award at AFI Fest, Best Documentary Short at Port Townsend Film Festival amongst many other achievements. We hope the movie is able to bag the Academy Award this year as well. ‘F**king Disgrace’: Aquaman Director James Wan Hits Back at Oscars for Snubbing His Film from Visual Effects Category.

This won't be the first time an India-based documentary has made it to the final list of nominations at the Academy Awards. American filmmaker Megan Mylan's Smile Pinky won the Oscar for Best Docu Short in 2008. In 1978, Vidhu Vinod Chopra's directorial, An Encounter with Faces, was nominated in Best Documentary (Short Subject) category. We are eagerly hoping that we bring home the trophy this time.
