The 91st Academy Awards concluded the run. Now, who's who of Hollywood are off to drinking and dancing at the Vanity Fair after party. Well, the tea has only begun to spill. One of the biggest gossips that came our way was the fact that BlacKkKlansman Spike Lee almost made a scene when he lost the Best Picture Award to Green Book. Honestly, if you know the full story behind it, you'd totally be on board with his upsetness. Turns out, Spike's film didn't score a nomination at the 1989 Oscars and there is a pattern here. In 1989, at the Oscars, the Best Picture was given to Driving Miss Daisy, while Spike's Do The Right Thing didn't make the cut in the category. Interestingly, both the movie, 1989's Driving Miss Daisy and 2018's Green Book, are about driving around people. While talking to reporters backstage, announcing his 6th glass of Champagne, Spike said, "I'm snake-bit. Every time someone is driving somebody I lose,"
That is sort of hilarious but equally sad. "I thought I was courtside at the Garden and the ref made a bad call," Spike said talking about the moment when he heard Green Book has won. As per reports, Spike turned his face away from the stage. Some reports even claim that he did not stay in the room longer. Lady Gaga Bradley Cooper Memes From the Oscars 2019 Are Out! Spike Lee won his first ever Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for BlacKkKlansman which is based on Ron Stallworth's 2014 novel. Spike was presented the award by Samuel L Jackson. In his acceptance speech, he said, "Samuel L. Jackson and I went to the same college. I have known Sam from way, way back. To have him open up the envelope and say my name it was a great thing. Did I jump up on him? That was a genuine reaction."
Associated Press journalist Andrew Dalton was apparently sitting close enough to Spike to see his full reaction when he lost. The reporter tweeted that Spike was visibly upset and waved his arms in disgust and even contemplated walking out of the room right then.
