Quentin Tarantino arrived in the USA with his ninth film, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. Set in the '60s, the movie is a revisionist take on the infamous Manson cult murders, where former actress and director Roman Polanski's wife, Sharon Tate, was killed along with her friends. Just like how he gave his own take of Adolf Hitler's death in Inglorious Basterds, Quentin Tarantino is changing history through fictional narratives and fictionalised characters. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is also special for its casting. Just like any Tarantino film, the movie has an ensemble cast with known and popular names in it, Of course, the biggest newsmakers is that this is Leonardo DiCaprio's first film since he won the Academy Award for the Best Actor in 2016 (for The Revenant). It is also the first movie to have teamed him up with Brad Pitt. Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie plays Sharon Tate in the film, while the movie also features Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, Emile Hirsch, Margaret Qualley, Timothy Olyphant, Austin Butler, Dakota Fanning, Bruce Dern and the late Bruce Dern. Once Upon A Time in Hollywood had its world premiere at Cannes 2019 where it got overwhelmingly positive reviews. Now it is about to release in the USA, and has given itself to early press screenings. And just like its Cannes reception, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood has been good reviews from its American critics too. Check out what some of the major websites have to say about the film:
Deadline says, "Pitt and DiCaprio are both Oscar-worthy, a Newman and Redford for a new age who act in roles taking place in the same year that Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was taking over movie screens. Neither star has been better. Let’s hope this isn’t their last teaming."
GameSpot says, "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is much more than a retelling of certain events--in fact, it fails spectacularly at being that. But it succeeds immensely at being a fairy tale--a recounting of a time and place, an attempt to capture the essence of Hollywood's golden age, one that came to an end in 1969--but, maybe for Tarantino, never really ended at all."
Entertainment Weekly says, "The 56-year-old’s ninth — and so he promises, penultimate — film feels like the sprawling confluence of every last thread in his creative DNA: lock-jawed Westerns, splattery exploitation, sex, sideburns, Nazis, nihilists, femmes who may or may not be fatales. It’s shaggy and self-indulgent and almost scandalously long; and in nearly every moment, pretty glorious."
In India, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood is releasing on August 15 clashing with Akshay Kumar's Mission Mangal and John Abraham's Batla House.
