Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are all set to reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity, respectively, with Matrix 4. The series kick-started with The Matrix that released in 1999 and was followed by the sequels - The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, and both the films released in 2003. The franchise will now have a fourth installment which would be produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, confirms Variety. The report also mentions that Matrix 4 will be distributed globally along with Village Roadshow Pictures.

Matrix 4 will be written and directed by Lana Wachowski. The update on the fourth installment was confirmed by Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich. He was quoted saying as, “We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana.” He also said, “Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe,” reports Variety.

The production of Matrix 4 is expected to begin in 2020. The details with regards to the film’s plot is not yet known. Lana Wachowski said in a statement, “Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.” The Matrix franchise has been a blockbuster.
