Marvel's Black Panther Sinks Titanic to Be the Third-Highest Grossing Movie in North America
Black Panther is directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Chadwick Boseman in the lead.
Marvel's Black Panther is not yet tired of its record-breaking spree. The superhero movie is continuing to break records as it extends its golden run at the worldwide box office. We are sure even the executives at Marvel and Disney would have been quite surprised with the kind of reception Black Panther has got at the box office.
At the North American box office, which includes USA, Canada and Mexico, Black Panther has toppled James Cameron's Titanic from the third position to take the spot for itself. With $665.4 million earnings, Black Panther has surpassed Titanic's lifetime collections of $659 in North America (not accounting for inflation). However, it is quite an arduous task ahead for King T'Challa and his Wakandans to take the second and the third spot, as the gap is quite wide here. At the second spot is James Cameron's Avatar with $760.5 million earnings and the top spot is coveted by Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $936.7 million earnings. We would have given Black Panther a sliver of chance, if it was not for another little Marvel movie coming out in a couple of weeks - Avengers: Infinity War.
That's the scene with the domestic (read, North American) collections. Meanwhile, as per a report in Forbes, Black Panther has just missed the $1.3 billion mark, with its worldwide collections of $1.2999 billion this week. Well, there is time!
Black Panther is directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Chadwick Boseman in the lead. Michael B Jordan plays the main antagonist, while the movie also stars Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.
