Despite all the appreciation that Phoenix received for his portrayal of one of the deadliest villains of comic book history, the film ran into controversies for several things such as instigating violent behaviour and more. In a fresh set of problems, the film has now run into trouble for using Gary Glitter's song "Rock and Roll Part 2" for one of the crucial scenes in the film. Glitter who was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2015, was found guilty of attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and one count of having sex with a girl under the age of 13. His song's usage in the film has angered netizens who believe that Glitter could be receiving royalties from Warner Bros for using his song. The said track features in the film when Phoenix's Fleck embraces his new personality as Joker and his dance on the steps towards the climax is set to this track.
