But Aquaman is a different ball-game. Jason Momoa's casting has managed to blow away the absurdity surrounding Aquaman's persona. Hiring James Was as a director was also a great move, since Wan can make entertaining blockbusters, see the Conjuring series and Furious 7. The trailers of the film have all been received well, especially the underwater action scenes. Though it is releasing in the USA on December 21, Aquaman has already been released in China, two weeks prior. And it has taken off to a fantastic start. China is considered as one of the biggest markets for movies in the world, and the fact that Aquaman has taken a record-breaking start in the country means only good business for DC and Warner Bros.

As per the latest update by South Morning China Post, Aquaman has collected $93.6 million in its opening weekend, which is the highest for any DC movie. It has beaten the box office earnings of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice ($56 million) by miles. Now Aquaman has tied up with Captain America: Civil War for the 20th spot in the highest opening collections for a movie in China. The top spot is still ruled by Avengers Infinity War with $191 million. Interestingly, Wan's Furious 7 is at the fourth position with $182 million earnings.
Aquaman is releasing in India on December 14, where it is clashing with another superhero movie, the animated Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. Aquaman also stars Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe and Nicole Kidman.
