James Wan's superhero blockbuster Aquaman which stars Jason Momoa as the King of Atlantis has managed to cross the $1 billion box office mark! This is definitely a big feat for DC Comics films as after much box office debacles, they are upping their name and game in the industry. Having crossed the $1 billion mark, Aquaman has become the third DC Comics adaptation to have reached this feat. In the past, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises crossed the $1 billion milestones by earning $1.004 billion in 2008 and $1.084 billion in 2012, respectively.

Aquaman's collection has surpassed the lifetime collection of The Dark Knight, making it the second best DC superhero film and the eighth-highest grossing superhero movie that has ever been made! The top seven are crowded by Marvel films, the three Avengers films, Black Panther, Iron Man 3, Captain America: Civil War and The Dark Knight Rises. The domestic collections of Aquaman are not very impressive as it stands at about $286 million with a possibility of it crossing $300 million by next weekend. However, Aquaman raked in big bucks at the overseas market with a whopping $713 million gross so far. Even in India, the film earned a good Rs 50 crores at the box office.

An emotional James Wan took to Twitter to share his happiness over the staggering success of the film. He started with, "A few things to say... Firstly, this movie wouldn’t be what it is without the astonishing achievement of everyone involved, from the head of departments to every single crew member, who demanded utmost excellence in helping design and create this cinematic experience." This went on with a thread of three more tweets where he added how he is forever indebted to Jason Momoa for turning Aquaman into one of the cooolest superheroes. Wan also thanked the other cast as he said, "Huge THANK YOU to my amazing cast — Amber, Patrick (my rabbit foot), Nicole, Yahya, Willem, Temuera, Dolph, Ludi, Michael — for breathing life and wonder into our beloved characters."

Wan concluded his list of thank-yous with this final tweet, "THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has supported this underdog. For making this non-mainstream character (and yes — with leading POC individuals in front and behind the camera!) connect on such a huge global scale. In the words of Aquaman himself, “MAHALO” 🙏" It sure has been a good run for Aquaman at the box office. Hopefully, it might be able to surpass The Dark Knight Rises too to become the first DC superhero film with respect to box office numbers.
