So, to celebrate the director’s birthday, we are taking a look at five of his best films!
Avatar: The Way of Water
Coming in nearly 13 years after the first film, Cameron once again set the standard of what could be done with visual filmmaking when Avatar: The Way of Water hit theatres. Focusing on the Sully family as an enemy from the past starts threatening them once more, the film is a three-hour long epic filled with some gorgeous visuals and extremely deep world building.
Avatar
For its time, Avatar was a game-changer. Dropping us into the beautiful and deadly world of Pandora while telling the high-stakes story of the Na’vi, the film was Cameron just showing what more could be achieved with technology and storytelling. A breathtaking adventure filled with some of the best visuals you will ever see, Avatar is amazing.
Titanic
Cameron’s attempt at telling a love story proved to be highly successful as he crafted a romance for the ages that was set in the tragic backdrop of one the biggest disasters ever. Titanic is fueled wonderfully by the love story of Jack and Rose, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet having insane chemistry to them. A tear-jerker that will definitely stick with you, Cameron surely was on top-of-the-world over here.
Aliens
When it comes to sequels, never bet against Cameron. Alien was an already successful sci-fi experience, but it was Aliens that turned up the notch and gave us more of the deadly Xenomorphs. Aliens is the perfect sequel that expands on the first film and gives us more of what we wanted, and it’s just a simple concept that’s executed to the best.
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Terminator 2: Judgement Day is easily Cameron at his best. Just like Aliens, here also he took what made the previous film so good and delivered an action film for the ages. With Arnold Schwarzenegger, Edward Furlong and Linda Hamilton being amazing alongside the terrifying Robert Patrick, Terminator 2 is the blueprint of how to do sequels correctly.
