The first trailer of the long-delayed Jacob's Ladder remake has finally dropped on the internet. It has been clarified by the makers that this new film is a lot a scene to scene remake of the original 1990 psychological horror, but would instead be a homage to it. The notion is very well reflected in the creepy new trailer featuring Jesse Williams and Nicole Beharie. The original Jacob's Ladder centred on a Vietnam war veteran going through a series of creepy events and hallucinations after returning from the war. The new one, while does work on the same plot points, it also adds new creepier details. Annabelle Comes Home Movie Review: Too Many Ghosts Spoil the Broth.

In David M. Rosenthal's remake, Jacob's brother is killed in Afghanistan. But is he dead? Jacob learns from a stranger that his brother is alive with other war veterans, living under an underground homeless shelter. A few scenes are similar to original play out in the remake, for instance, the ice bath and scaly old people. The Curse of the Weeping Woman Movie Review: James Wan’s Latest Horror Offering Is Clichéd but So Frighteningly Entertaining.

Jacob's Ladder remake was launched all the way back in 2013. It was put on a back burner after being shot in 2016, and we are pleasantly surprised that it is finally seeing the light of the day. While Jacob's Ladder might not have been a property that brought in the moolah, it is remembered fondly by horror fans. A remake just might help boost the popularity of the original, which certainly is on my list of movies-to-watch-before-you-die.

The biggest problem with the remake is that the final twist in the original cannot be replicated. And if not for the twist, even the original was not that great of a film. The numerous delays and script changes that the movie went through since 2013 is not reassuring either. But, hey, I am still going to buy my tickets because writer Jeff Buhler (The Prodigy, Pet Sematary) has promised a fresh new twist.
