Hobbs & Shaw Box Office Collection Day 3: Dwayne Johnson's Latest Offering Packs a Solid Punch in the Opening Weekend, Mints Rs 42.90 Crore
Apart from faring well in India, Hobbs & Shaw performed brilliantly at the global box office as well. The Hollywood biggie collected approximately $180.8 million worldwide over the first weekend. With that, it has become the third-biggest opener in the Fast & Furious franchise.
This year, Hollywood films are having a fantastic run at the Indian box office. Be it Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man Far From Home, The Lion King or the recently released Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. The high-on action film released last Friday alongside Hindi comedy-drama Khandaani Shafakhana starring Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. While the Bollywood release got off to a disastrous start and is already out of most theaters, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, and Idris Elba starrer, on the other hand, took a big opening and then performed well at the ticket windows on Saturday and Sunday too. Trade analyst and movie critic Taran Adarsh took to Twitter a while back and revealed the film's updated figures. He wrote, "#FastAndFurious: #HobbsAndShaw - a popular franchise in #India - packs a solid total... Witnesses good growth on Day 3... Will be interesting to see how it performs on weekdays... Fri 13.15 cr, Sat 13.75 cr, Sun 16 cr. Total: ₹ 42.90 cr Nett BOC. India biz. All versions."
Boxofficeindia.com, however, has reported, "Fast & Furious - Hobbs & Shaw had a good weekend but the film could not really push higher over the weekend. Sunday was good growth but it came after a flat Saturday which meant the collections on Sunday were lower than they should have been." Since Hobbs & Shaw is an out-an-out action entertainer with hard-core stunts, it should have crossed the Rs 50 crore mark in the opening weekend itself. Having said that, the movie still has two more weeks to rake in moolah before facing stiff competition from Bollywood films like Misson Mangal and Batla House, both of which arrive in theatres on August 15.
