Although the former One Direction member was rooting for the role of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann's upcoming biopic, the role eventually went to Austin Butler. So far he has not given approval for the Disney project yet, it sure would be a thirst-affair if he takes up the role. As the announcement of Bailey's casting came out, filmmaker Rob Marshall told E! News, "After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance—plus a glorious singing voice—all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role." Halle Bailey will be joined by Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina, who will play Flounder and Scuttle. So far the studio has only announced the casting of Disney princess, Ariel. The press statement further added that "additional announcements regarding The Little Mermaid are expected in the coming weeks." Lin-Manuel Miranda will be producing and even writing new music for the live-action remake. Others attached to the project are Marc Platt (producer), John DeLuca (producer) and Alan Menken (who will work in the music segment).
