The 74th Golden Globe Awards ceremony took place in Beverly Hills today. Ellen DeGeneres was honoured with Carol Burnett Award. The comedian took a few moments in her acceptance speech to make everyone laugh. The most particular being she thanking her husband Mark.

The actress who came out as a lesbian back in the '90s and changed the game on TV made the joke pointing out her wife, Portia de Rossi. "And I couldn’t have done it without my husband Mark. Mark, you are a rock," Ellen said. The camera then turned to show her wife laughing, along with rest of the audience. But the real power of television for me is not that people watch my show, but people watch my show and then they’re inspired to do the same thing in their own lives,” Ellen further said in her acceptance speech. Comedian Kate McKinnon was given the task to introduce Ellen on stage. An emotional Kate thanked Ellen for giving her the power to be who she is. “In 1997, when Ellen’s sitcom was at the height of its popularity, I was in my mother’s basement lifting weights in front of the mirror thinking, ‘Am I gay?’ And I was. And I still am. But that’s a very scary thing to suddenly know about yourself,” she said. .
“She risked her entire life and her entire career in order to tell the truth, and she suffered greatly for it. Of course, attitudes change, but only because brave people like Ellen jump into the fire to make them change. And if I hadn’t seen her on TV, I would’ve thought, ‘I could never be on TV.'”

Ellen and Portia married each other in 2008, after having met in 2005. The two are the hottest couple in Hollywood. As opposed to the Ellen's speech, the two do not have kids either.
