It is always a proud moment for us desis when an Indian receives accolades in the West. We are not talking about Priyanka Chopra but the ‘Master of None’ series fame Aziz Ansari. The recently held 75th Golden Globe Awards turned fruitful for the writer-actor as he won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series Musical or Comedy. Interestingly, Golden Globes 2018 feat also makes him the first Indian-American and of first Asian descent to receive this prestigious award. In Netflix’s comedy series 'Master of None', he plays a role of an actor named Dev Shah.
After receiving the award, the master comic-actor said, “I genuinely didn't think I was going to win because all of the websites said I was going to lose. I'm glad we won this one because it would've really sucked to lose two of these in a row; it would've been a really s***** moment for me, but this is nice."
Aziz Ansari’s fans across the globe did not lose much time and started congratulating him on the social media. It was even fun to see how the 34-year-old chose to celebrate his great win! His co-star from the same series, Eric Wareheim posted a picture where he and Aziz are seen celebrating the actor’s big win with In-N-Out Burger. Aziz was seen holding the much-deserved treat in one hand and the Golden Globe award in other. Wareheim captioned, “After Party. #bigbudlilbud #doubledouble.”
Earlier, only a handful of Asians have made it to Golden Globe Awards winners list. Yoko Shimada, Sandra Oh, Haing Somnang Ngor, Ben Kingsley are a few of those who have been awarded in different years for various shows.
