‘Gladiator II’ Censor Board Report: Two Scenes of Violence, Sexist Slur Removed From Ridley Scott’s New Movie in India; Passed With U/A Rating (SPOILER ALERT)
Gladiator II, directed by Ridley Scott, stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Connie Nielsen, and Denzel Washington.
Gladiator II, Ridley Scott's sequel to his epic 2000 historical drama Gladiator, is set to release in India on November 15. However, like the gladiators in the film, it is not emerging unscathed from the scrutiny of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), commonly known as the Censor Board of India. While Gladiator II carries an R rating in the USA, it is releasing in India with a U/A rating (the Indian equivalent of a PG-13 rating in the USA). The reason behind this more lenient classification is that certain scenes have been removed. ‘Gladiator 2’ Trailer: Is Lucius the Son of Maximus? How Ridley Scott Connects Paul Mescal-Starring Sequel to Russell Crowe’s Oscar-Winning Epic.
According to a report by journalist Aroon Deep, the Censor Board has trimmed specific visuals from the film, including two violent scenes. One such scene involves a gladiator beheading a rhino rider, while another (SPOILER ALERT) shows Joseph Quinn's character, Emperor Geta, being killed by his brother, Emperor Caracalla (played by Fred Hechinger).
In addition to these cuts, a sexist slur has been removed from the film's audio and subtitles. The runtime of Gladiator II's Indian cut is mentioned to be 148 minutes, which is the same as the version screened internationally, which means the deleted visuals are just nothing more than a few milliseconds. Still, it's irksome for those who want their movies untainted by censor edits. ‘Gladiator II’ Trailer: Paul Mescal’s Lucius Battles Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington To Save Rome in Ridley Scott’s Epic Sequel.

The film features an ensemble cast, including Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Lior Raz, Derek Jacobi, Connie Nielsen, and Denzel Washington.
