Ever since the sequel of Doctor Strange was announced, fans have been super-excited for the same. Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse of Madness was announced at San Diego Comic-Con this year and the movie was announced with a release date of May 7, 2021. Director Scott Derrickson will be helming the film and we had earlier learnt that the film will also have a horror twist. Not just this, we had also learnt that this time round, Benedict Cumberbatch's sorcerer will be joined by Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch but we are still not sure as an ally or as an enemy. Considering Derrickson is known to be an accomplished horror director and hence there had been speculations that the second instalment in the Doctor Strange series will have be haunted. Although recently, Marvel President Kevin Feige speaking at the New York Film Academy, Marvel Studios said, "I wouldn’t necessarily say that’s a horror film," he observed, "but … it’ll be a big MCU film with scary sequences in it."
There's no doubt that the film will not have regular superhero film tropes and that as always, Marvel is trying to push the envelope a little further by introducing something new to the genre like several films did this year with things that brought them in the R-rated genre. Although with this one, they are trying to a strike a balance given that previously Derrickson had said it will be "the first scary MCU movie" while producer Kevin Fiege confirmed it will still be PG 13.
