Sequels are tricky to pull off and not every director is able to weave the same magic of the original. Especially when it comes to the horror genre, expectations with the sequels are always touching the sky but the end result is rarely so satiating. After witnessing IT: Chapter Two this year, another worthy sequel that's waiting to hit the screens is Doctor Sleep. Directed by Mike Flanagan, Doctor Sleep is the sequel of The Shining, a classic that's still cherished for some of its brilliant and horrifying scenes. While its premiere night is still away, some of the critics in the west were able to catch its early screening. It's a huge weight on Flanagan's shoulder to direct a sequel to this Stanley Kubrick's classic but going by the film's first reactions, he seems to have nailed it really well. Critics are busy singing praises of this Stephen King adaptation and their positive words are further making us eager beaver to watch the film on the big screen. A perfect combination of everything
I was fully invested in #DoctorSleep which is a satisfying supernatural thriller that distinguishes itself apart from its predecessor, The Shining, while also paying homage. Ripe with chills, jumps, scares and a hefty emotional weight. @joblocom

Doctor Sleep is best of the bunch
It’s been a great yr for Stephen King adaptations but I think #DoctorSleep is the best of the bunch. Thrilled me in ways I wasn’t expecting, made me emotional at times & Rebecca Ferguson is ferocious. What a wonderful celebration of Kubrick, King & @flanaganfilm’s career as well. pic.twitter.com/jQ8ktEeUVE

As brilliant as Shawshank Redemption!
Doctor Sleep is the best Stephen King adaption since Shawshank Redemption. Mike Flanagan has perfectly combined nostalgia with tension, mystery, and suspense. The entire cast is superb. There are a number of surprises that will make King fans squeal with delight. #DoctorSleep pic.twitter.com/PhSDm6EZsZ

Can we fast forward the time?
Fans of #TheShining are really gonna love #DoctorSleep. It's at its best when its fueled by follow-up. Starts slowly and descends into madness, just like its predecessor. One specific scene is really horrifying, some solid scares, and good performances across the board. pic.twitter.com/NnHcq1ia8Q

A worthy sequel indeed
One more #doctorsleep thought: A huge part of the story is confronting memories, and this is where the recreation of the Kubrick film REALLY makes this hit hard. The imagery of that movie is so ubiquitous & the familiarity of it all really builds some fantastic dread.

Beautifully Haunting!
Rebecca Ferguson is also terrifying as Rose the Hat. She steals much of the film, and she really gets under your skin. Honestly, this may be one of my favorite @StephenKing adaptations EVER. It’s just haunting, beautiful, and fun. Check it out, guys! #DoctorSleep @flanaganfilm pic.twitter.com/FikXobnuao

Best King Adaptation of the year
#DoctorSleep is The Shining sequel King fans have been waiting for. Kyliegh Curran is a star in the making & Rebecca Ferguson is downright terrifying. Flanagan beautifully meshes Danny Torrance's haunting past w/ the now present, resulting in the best King adaptation of the year pic.twitter.com/g3iEOt7iyG

Looking forward to watching Rebecca Ferguson
Seriously, the female characters in #DoctorSleep are just so spellbinding and charismatic. Like, if you didn't have a crush on Rebecca Ferguson prior to this film, you will. Oh by the powers that be, you will... https://t.co/WjHlzSVZhd

It's after forty years that Mike Flanagan is determined to take us back to the Overlook hotel with Danny, now Dan Torrance. The ones gifted with special abilities are being hunted and going by the early reactions, Rebecca has done a fab job in being a charmer and the movie's prime antagonist. We are definitely thrilled about this new offering and looking forward to it 'shining' on the big screen.
