Why Did Rowan Atkinson Retire From His ‘Mr Bean’ Character?
In an interview with BBC in 2011, Rowan Atkinson revealed that he wishes to maintain a certain perspective of the Mr Bean character for life. If he continued to portray his role, he would end up messing it. He said, "I don't want him to grow old, and if I carry on playing him, then he's going to get older, whether we like it or not."
Atkinson added, "I have always regarded Mr Bean as an ageless, timeless figure. I would like to remember him how he was five or 10 years ago." He described Mr Bean as a "child in a grown man's body. I've got a feeling I probably won't play the character again. Never say never, but I just feel I'm getting too old for it. I have always liked Bean as a cartoon-like figure who doesn't really age much." Rowan Atkinson’s Altered Bedridden Photo Goes Viral: 3 Times ‘Mr Bean’ Fans Were Fooled by His Death Hoax!.
