Now this is big news and might come as a surprise to a lot of Doctor WHo fans who didn't know this earlier. Peter Capaldi, who played the 12th Doctor on the show had initially refused to even audition for the role. It's no secret that Peter is a huge DW fan and it is kind of surprising to know that he had refused to audition for the role. But before you jump to conclusions, the actor was approached for a role in the 1996 TV film, which he turned down. According to a story on Digital Spy, the actor was too much of a fan and explained in 2014, "I knew I wouldn't get it. I loved the show so much that I didn't want to have anything to do with it, unless it was going to be me [definitely playing the part]."
He added, "I didn't want the disappointment [after] going through all the palaver – jumping through hoops for something I would never get. It was an American pilot and I knew they would go for somebody who was well-known – which Paul was, and he was fantastic. So I said to my agent, 'Thank you very much, but I don't want to go along'."
Well, Peter did finally get to play the Doctor when Steven Moffat approached him to replace Matt Smith in the show. Capaldi was a mind-blowing Doctor and one of my personal favourites after Christopher Eccleston.
Just for all you Whovians out there, here are some funny moments of Capaldi from the series.
Capaldi regenerated on the show last Christmas and left fans teary-eyed. The next Doctor is Jodie Whittaker, who is the first female actor to play the Doctor. We're so glad Capaldi agreed to play the doctor for quite a long time. What are your thoughts on this? Tell us in the comments below and stay tuned with us for more.
