So, whosoever has not watched Avengers: EndGame till now, thanks to the shows being unavailable, kindly do not read ahead! For we are discussing one of the most powerful, most important scene in the film that has the audience cheer the most. The scene we are talking about happens during the climactic fight with Thanos (Josh Brolin). Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) try to take down the Mad Titan together. Avengers EndGame: Mark Ruffalo Spoilt The Ending of the Marvel Film Before Release and We Never Realised It! (Video SPOILER ALERT).
However, the Mad Titan proves to be a bit more powerful, even without the stones. Thor who wields both his hammer Mjolnir (destroyed in Thor: Ragnarok, retrieved thanks to time travel) and Stormbreaker, still couldn't beat Thanos. When Thanos gets the upper hand over Thor, and tries to kill him with the Stormbreaker, we see the Mjolnir rising from the ground and then goes on to hit Thanos.
Till then, we think that it is Thor who summoned the magic hammer. However, to our (and Thanos and Thor's) surprise, the Mjolnir goes to Captain America (cue....wild, uproarious cheers from the audience), who then wields it like a pro and attacks Thanos. Cue, more wild cheers!
So what's so special about this scene? In the first Thor film, when Thor's father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) banishes the God of Thunder from Asgard to Earth, he also flings away Thor's favourite weapon to Earth, but not without a condition. He proclaims that, '"Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.' Later, in the movie, Thor not being able to pick up his own hammer, became the driving point of the film, though he achieves that in the end, when he tries to sacrifice his life for a town.
After that though, many tried to pick up the hammer, but nearly everyone failed. Only one superhero managed to wield successfully it before, other than Thor, and it was Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron (which is why, the rest of the Avengers allows him to keep the Mind Stone).
In the same film, there is a light-hearted scene at a party earlier, where the rest of the Avengers try to pick the hammer and fail miserably at it. However, when Cap tries to pick up the hammer, it nudges slightly, worrying Thor for a second, but doesn't leave the floor.
Watch the scene below:
Now Captain America had wielded the Mjolnir in the comics, as his righteous, upright nature was deemed worthy enough to do so. This little scene in Age of Ultron hinted at that. But a proper fruition of that idea took nearly a dozen movies to happen.
But if you believe a particular fan theory on Age of Ultron, it says that Captain America could have picked up the Mjolnir in the film. He chooses not to do so, just because he didn't want Thor to feel bad. Knowing Cap's nature of not wanting to hurt his close friends, it didn't sound far-fetched. Avengers EndGame: 9 Moments in Marvel’s Superhero Film That Made You Reach for Those Tissues to Wipe Your Tears (SPOILER ALERT).
Avengers: EndGame actually plays into this theory fairly well. For when Mjolnir gets to Captain America, Thor says, 'I knew it!', which feels like he always knew that Captain America could have wielded the hammer. Also, Cap doesn't pick up the hammer from the ground, he actually calls for it. This means, that he was aware of the fact that he is worthy enough to call the Mjolnir and then wield it like a pro! Whatever the case, the Russo brothers gave us a scene that will be talked about by the Marvel fans for years!
