American pop singer Demi Lovato was hospitalised on Tuesday following an alleged drug overdose. The 25-year-old singer was taken to a Los Angeles hospital after being found unconscious at her home. Lovato has in the past spoken about her struggle with substance abuse since late 2010. She had admitted to using cocaine often and also said she was diagnosed with bipolar.

According to a report in Rolling Stone, The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that they had responded to a medical emergency call at 11:22 a.m. They received the call from a Hollywood Hills residence where Lovato lives. NBC reported that the first responders who arrived at her home used naloxone which counteracts the effects of an opioid overdose.

According to a report in US Weekly, a source informed that Demi's former boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrama is "completely devasted" by the news. The report read, "Wilmer is completely devastated and he still loves Demi and it was just a matter of scheduling and time that they needed to make a romantic relationship work. He was not aware that her issues were this severe and intense at this time."

Meanwhile, the singer next concert set for Thursday at Atlantic City beach in New Jersey has been cancelled. In the past, she had backed out from a concert tour with the Jonas Brothers and got admitted to a rehabilitation facility. After a year in the facility, Lovato had also disclosed that she had suffered from eating disorder and alcoholism.

Lovato has had some of the chart-topping hits like Give Your Heart a Break, Cool for the Summer, Heart Attack, and Sorry Not Sorry. Lovato's estranged father who also had a similar addiction died in 2013. She frequently makes references to him in her music.

In a YouTube documentary about her life titled Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated, referring to her drug overdose experience, Lovato said, "I was scared because my mom always told me that your heart could just burst if you do it. But I did it anyway, and I loved it the first time that I did it. I guess I always searched for what he found in drugs and alcohol because it fulfilled him, and he chose that over a family."
