The Child's Play franchise was one of the longest horror franchises in Hollywood. Bringing into our lives the evil doll, Chucky, the franchise made many in our generation feel terrified of these children's toys. The later instalments of Child's Play franchise saw dwindling critical consensus, even with the inclusion of more killer dolls and gore. So the studios have gone ahead and done what's the trend these days - they have rebooted the franchise with the upcoming film, Child's Play, to scare the new generation. Child’s Play Trailer: Evil Murderer Doll Chucky Returns with Technological Upgrades – Watch Video.

The new trailer reveals that not only does the film revisit the original plot of the first film in the original franchise, but also bring in a new Chucky. So goes out Brad Dourif who had voiced Chucky for years and now comes in Star Wars legend Mark Hamill. Hamill may be popular for playing Luke Skywalker in the SW franchise, but his voice work is far more prolific. He is particularly known for voicing the Joker in DC's animated movies and games. So I have to say, this is inspired casting

Unfortunately, it is only towards the fag end of the trailer that we actually get to hear Hamill's voice.

Till then, Child's Play trailer relies on creating the horror setting and giving us glimpses of new Chucky (also referred to as 'Buddi' here) on his murderous rampage. The new Chucky has also been updated with the times, now equipped with Wifi and all, so we have to see if he kills people by tracking them with GPS!

Even more bizarre is the casting of the quirky Aubrey Plaza (Parks & Recreation) as the single mother of the young protagonist, played by Gabriel Bateman as the new Andy Barclay. Child's Play is directed by Lars Klevberg and is scheduled to release in June 2019.
