Captain Marvel New Trailer: 7 Hints and Secrets Hidden in Brie Larson, Jude Law and Samuel L Jackson’s Latest Superhero Promo
Captain Marvel is all set to release on March 8.
Marvel nerds, we now have a new trailer of Captain Marvel, which looks far better than the previous promos and has managed to retain our interest in the film. While Captain Marvel still hasn't managed to get rid of the tag of being 'just another Marvel movie before Avengers Endgame', the new trailer has some interesting details that are not just important to the upcoming Avengers movie, but might also help us understand Marvel Universe in general. Talking more about the film, Captain Marvel brings Academy Award winner Brie Larson (Room) to the superhero fold. She is Carol Danvers, a former US pilot in the '70s who somehow gets meshed in intergalactic adventures and becomes one of the most powerful beings in the universe, called Captain Marvel. She returns to Earth once again in the '90s, with no memory of having lived there, where she comes under the observation of a younger Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson). The movie has her fight shapeshifting aliens called Skrulls, while we also hopefully find out what made her leave Earth once again and what is it that Fury contacted her only towards the end of Avengers Infinity War (before he was wiped away by Thanos' snap) and not before. ICYMI, here's the new trailer of Captain Marvel -
Also, the new trailer has given a few more insights about the film and also about the universe it is set in. We have picked up seven such hints for you.
A Closer Look At Ronan The Accuser
We already had a little glimpse of the now-dead Guardians of the Galaxy villain, Ronan The Accuser (Lee Pace) in the first Captain Marvel trailer. Now we have a closer, and yet unclear, look of the villain, as he watches two spacecrafts getting blown to smithereens outside his space-station. BTW, he is alive because Captain Marvel is set before the events of the first GOTG film and he is here, because he is Kree.
Skrull Transforming
So we now have a proper glimpse of a Skrull transforming in a random surfer chick, as it emerges from the sea. The trailer also confirms that the old lady whom Carol Danvers picks a fight with is also a Skrull. So hold on to your pitchforks, dear people who got offended!
Captain Marvel's 'Iron Fist' Moment
Why does Captain Marvel charging her fist to shoot a photon blast reminds us so much of Iron Fist? Are their powers somehow interlinked? In case you haven't been aware of Danny Rand's story, you can catch the two seasons of the now-cancelled Iron Fist on Netflix. Also, Captain Marvel reveals to Nick Fury that the difference between Skrull and her, is that she can send photon blasts. I bet that will come in play somewhere ahead in the movie. Mar-Vell Being a Total Snape
Mar-Vell (Jude Law) is a Kree who trains Carol Danvers in becoming one of the most powerful beings in the universe. However, his training methods are kinda rough and it reminds me of how Snape used to train Harry Potter in Leglimency in the fifth book/movie, Harry Potter and The Order of Phoenix. Is he not really happy about training Carol?
A Fresh Look At Ben Mendelsohn's Villain
Ben Mendelsohn is slowly becoming the go-to guy in Hollywood when they need a smarmy villain. The promos of Captain Marvel have been hiding his look of a Skrull disguised as a SHIELD operative. However, we have a closer look here in this scene where Nick Fury debriefs him about the Captain Marvel situation. Is he the reason why Fury lost his one eye in the first place? In case you have forgotten it, Fury did say in Captain America: Winter Soldier that, "The last time I trusted someone I lost an eye."
Captain Marvel The Reason Why We Have The Avengers?
We already had a look of Clark Gregg's now younger, now alive SHIELD agent Phil Coulson in the first trailer. Here, we also hear him asking perhaps to Fury if they are looking for more people like Captain Marvel. Is this the moment when Fury decided to look out for superheroes, resulting in the formation of The Avengers?
The 'Iron Man' Loophole Continues
Like we said before, Captain Marvel is set in the '90s, way before the events of the first Iron Man movie happened. If you remember the other movie that came out in 2008 (and began the glorious journey of Marvel Cinematic Universe), Agent Coulson introduces his organisation to Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) as "Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division", leading to Potts jibing if they can make it shorter. Later Coulson informs her that his team is now called as SHIELD. While a funny joke, this loophole has been negated by TV series, Agent Carter and Agents of SHIELD. Now, this above scene in the CM promo also confirms that the organisation used to be called SHIELD in the '90s itself. So why was Coulson being a d*ck to Potts in Iron Man?
Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and also stars Djimon Hounsou, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan and Annette Bening. Since the movie's shoot was completed before Stan Lee's demise, we can also expect a post-humour cameo of the Marvel comics creator here. Captain Marvel is all set to release on March 8.
