Bradley Cooper has been nominated in the Best Actor category at the 91st Academy Awards 2019 for his brilliant performance in A Star Is Born. In his debut directorial film, Cooper played the role of Jackson Maine, a fading musician struggling with alcoholism who finds a spark in a talented young singer Ally played by Lady Gaga. The American actor has received three Oscar nominations this year including Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture for A Star Is Born.
The actor has been consistently making his presence felt and this being his third nomination in the Best Actor category of the Academy Awards, is proof of that. From playing an unhinged, emotionally vulnerable Patt Saliitano in 2013's Silver Linings Playbook, Cooper surprised everyone yet again with his PTSD-ridden military man act in 2015's American Sniper. Compare these two massive performances with A Star Is Born's Jackson Maine and it may not seem as impactful but Maine's demons are different and Bradly ably pulled off an act that was reflective of keen research and even managed to challenge the masculine stereotype that is significant with rockstars on-screen. Born on January 5, 1975, Bradley Cooper first appeared on-screen with a small role in the popular American series Sex and The City. He later made a mark as a supporting character in the 2005 comedy drama Wedding Crashers which starred Owen Wilson in the lead. Of course, his break out role was the 2009 comedy The Hangover. It was this film that truly put him on the map as the essential Hollywood hunk which won him a string of romantic comedies such as He's Just Not That Into You. Pulling himself out of the rom-com prototype, Cooper challenged himself with a role in the science-fiction film Limitless after which he made a power-packed performance in Silver Linings Playbook and truly got the recognition he deserved for his acting. He also managed to become an integral part of the Marvel universe by playing Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of The Galaxy,
Here's the trailer of A Star Is Born:
Bradley Cooper truly had his hands full whilst working on A Star Is Born since he not only directed and produced the film but has also co-written it. Even though A Star Is Born is adapted from the 1976 original film starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, Cooper managed to make make it his own by adding a beautiful country style soundtrack that boasts of gorgeous tracks such as "Shallow" and "Maybe It's Time". He trained for over 18 months to get his voice sound like an alcoholic. The actor even trained to get his speaking voice lowered and get the gravelly texture right. Even though the movie took about 42 days of shoot, Cooper trained and prepared to play Maine for over three years.
It will be interesting to see if Bradley Cooper gets his first ever Academy Award for A Star Is Born. The actor is competing with the likes of Christian Bale for his performance in Vice, Rami Malek for his performance in Bohemian Rhapsody, Willem Dafoe for At Eternity's Gate and Viggo Mortensen for Green Book. The Oscar Awards 2019 will be held on February 24 at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
