Avengers Infinity War: 11 Burning Questions Marvel's Biggest Superhero Film Left Us Asking
Needless to say, if you have not watched the movie, you are entering into HUGE SPOILER TERRITORY!
The biggest superhero movie of all time, Avengers Infinity War, has made a huge impact, be it at the box office or as a viewing experience. At the box office, the Marvel movie has been creating all sorts of records. It has already got the highest grossing opening weekend for any movie worldwide, as well as in the USA and in India (for a Hollywood movie). When it comes to figures, Avengers Infinity War has grossed more than $630 million worldwide, while it collected around Rs 94 crore in India.
Talking about the viewing experience, Avengers Infinity War, directed by the Russo Brothers, is a visual spectacle and a cinematic marvel. Visual spectacle, because there are some really awesome visuals topped with some spiffy action sequences. The Russo Brothers also pulled off a miracle when they successfully managed to balance great storytelling, sprawling star-cast and a terrifying villain to give an enjoyable superhero movie, that is not afraid to take risks, the climax being the proof of the latter. It is quite a marvellous movie experience and deserves the five-star review we gave for the movie.
That said, there are some questions that Infinity War leaves us asking, which we hope that the upcoming Avengers 4 might answer. Or perhaps, they might have arisen due to the writers' reliance on the script conveniences. Here are 11 such burning questions. Needless to say, if you have not watched the movie, you are entering into HUGE SPOILER TERRITORY!
Where are Valkyrie, Korg, Miek and Kraglin?
In the opening scene, we find Thanos and his Black Order having killed Thor's crew, with Loki and Heimdall joining the casualties later. Which makes us ask this - where are the scene-stealers from Thor: Ragnarok, Valkyrie, Korg and Miek? Later, when talking to Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor reveals that half his crew has been slaughtered. So that means, hopefully, the trio has been leading the rest, but where? Speaking of Guardians, where is Kraglin, who had seemingly joined the team at the end of GOTG Vol II, after Yondu's death?
Why was Thanos waiting for so long to send his 'children' to retrieve stones?
Thanos' Black Order, especially Ebony Maw, are powerful and they have proven they are much better than Loki and his Chitauri army to retrieve the stones. So after the events of the first Avengers movie, why did Thanos wait for so long to send the Black Order after the Avengers?
How fast is space travel in these movies?
Thor, Guardians, The Earth, and all the planets visited in the movie are millions of light years apart from each other. That's why Guardians have no clue who Thor is and likewise. And yet the speed they travel from one place to another and the timing in which they arrive for a particular scene makes us question why they even need a Bifrost to travel fast!
What happens to Red Skull after the discovery of Soul Stone?
In a shocking scene, Red Skull was revealed as the guardian of the Soul Stone on Vormir, after the Tesseract drove him here at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger. Now that Thanos has got the Soul Stone, there is nothing for Red Skull to guard there. So will he return to Earth or has he found eternal peace?
Why does Thor need a weapon after what happened at the end of Thor: Ragnarok?
During the climax scene of Thor: Ragnarok, Odin asks Thor if he is the God of Hammers, jibing that Thor really doesn't need a hammer to be powerful. Later, in the battle against Hela, this statement proved to be quite true as Thor discovers his powers need no hammer. However, this discovery of power was soon forgotten when Thanos had beaten Thor mercilessly in the opening scene. Thor later goes on a quest to make a powerful weapon to beat Thanos, which proves to be quite futile in the end.
Is Tony Stark the only way to beat Thanos?
Doctor Strange is the only one who knows the right spoiler for Avengers 4. After all, he saw some 14,000,605 alternative futures and found only one where they managed to beat Thanos. Later, when Thanos was about to kill Tony Stark, Strange stops the Mad Titan from doing so and gives him the Time stone. This, despite saying earlier that when it comes to saving Stark, Peter Parker and the Stone, Strange would not hesitate to save the Stone for the sake of the universe. So what made him change his mind? While we are at it, how does Thanos knows Stark out of all the people in the world?
Why couldn't the Guardians and Iron Man kill Thanos when they had the chance?
During a crucial action scene in Titan, Star-Lord, Drax, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Spider-Man and Nebula nearly subdue Thanos, while Mantis tries to get him to sleep. They succeed at that, so that they could try to remove the gauntlet from his hand, only for Star-Lord to ruin things in his emotional outburst on learning Thanos killed Gamora. But why couldn't they use the opportunity to kill Thanos instead of just taking the gauntlet?
How many will stay dead and who will return?
In the riskiest move ever, Infinity War managed to kill half the superheroes in the movie, which includes Loki, Heimdall, Gamora, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, Black Panther, Bucky, Falcon, Drax, Mantis, Groot, Nick Fury and Maria Hill. The question remains, how many will stay dead when Avengers 4 arrive and how many have truly returned to their graves? We already know that sequels to Spider-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy are in the pipeline, so many who were obliterated by Thanos's snap might return. The same cannot be said for Loki, Heimdall and perhaps Gamora, who are gone for good.
What about Hawkeye and Ant-Man?
Hawkeye and Ant-Man are completely absent from the movie, with Black Widow revealing that they have accepted house arrest (for their participation in the events of Civil War) for the sake of their families. So how has Thanos' snap affected them? The leaked set photos of Avengers 4 had revealed both Jeremy Renner and Paul Rudd with the surviving Avengers, which means they could be safe. But knowing Russo Brothers' ploy of shooting fake scenes, who can be sure?
Why didn't Nick Fury call Captain Marvel when the world was attacked before?
The end credits brought back Nick Fury and Maria Hill, after their disappearance from MCU since the events of Age of Ultron. But before we find out what they were doing all along this time and why they are in New York, Thanos' snap obliterates them. But not before Fury sends a message to Captain Marvel through a pager. Which makes us wonder, why didn't Fury do so when Chitauri attacked New York in the first Avengers or when Ultron threatened to destroy Earth in Age of Ultron. Also, why has Captain Marvel, considered the most powerful Avenger, not anticipated this Thanos attack earlier? Perhaps her solo origin movie, which is set in the '90s, might answer that!
How will this affect Marvel TV shows?
Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn't just comprise of movies; they also have TV and Netflix shows. Both the branches act independently, but the TV shows sometimes do refer to the incidents that happen in the movies, especially Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The movie universe, for some reason, chose to believe these shows do not exist at all. However, after Thanos' snap, we need to know how much will it affect the TV shows. Will the SHIELD's agents, or Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Iron Fist and rest of the Defenders be safe from the snap?
