Avengers Endgame is smashing records all over the globe. The movie has evolved into a pop culture phenomenon that will keep the internet talking for ages. Robert Downy Jr has been an integral part of the franchise since its inception and his role was the most important to this new film. The actor took his work home, or rather brought his home to work. Here is the story of how Robert's personal take on Avengers: Endgame gave us two of the most iconic lines in the movie. Well, if you have not watched the movie and intend to do it in the near future, my humble suggestion to you would be to turn away now rather than sending hate mails to us about spoiling it. [SPOILER ALERT] In Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark/Iron Man is rescued from the space. After returning to Earth he starts a fresh life with his wife, Pepper Potts, and their daughter Morgan. The little cutie likes to show her affection to her father by saying, "I love you 3000".
"That line is actually something Robert brought to the film," Anthony Russo told an entertainment portal in China. "He said that one of his children once told him, 'I love you 3000.' We told the story to the screenwriters, and eventually, it became a line in the script." Avengers: Endgame: Why Was There No Post-Credits Scene? Here's What the Russo Brothers Have to Say.
Now, that is not the only line that Robert Downey brought to the script. Turns out, his epic reply, "I am Iron Man", to Thanos saying, "I am inevitable", was also a post-production addition. At a Q&A, directors of the film Joe Russo and Anthony Russo spilt the secret. In the original cut, Tony did not say anything to Thanos before killing him by snapping his fingers. But the directors felt the scene needed more gravitas.
The directors said, “Tony used to not say anything in that moment. And we were in the editing room going, ‘He has to say something. This a character who has lived and died by quips.’ And we just couldn’t, we tried a million different last lines. Thanos was saying “I am inevitable.” And our editor Jeff Ford, who’s been with us all four movies and is an amazing storyteller, said ‘Why don’t we just go full circle with it and say I am Iron Man.’ And we’re like, ‘Get the cameras! We have to shoot this tomorrow.'”
Let us not forget that Robert Downey Jr had improvised the dialogue "I am Iron Man" in the original film that started the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, two iconic dialogues in Avengers: Endgame have come from Robert's vault of talent.
