Avengers: Endgame has opened in theatres worldwide, now. And should we be even telling you again how the movie is smashing box office records all over the world? We'd rather talk about how the movie is pathbreaking in an unpredictable way. Endgame has finally introduced MCU's first openly gay character. This post contains minor spoilers about Avengers: Endgame so if you want to keep the minutest details under wraps until you watch the movie, we suggest you turn back. Once again, MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD. Avengers: Endgame: Durex Condoms Share a Hilarious Post Relating to the Film's Leak and It is Sure to Leave You In Splits.

As we all have seen in the trailers, Captain America/Steve Rogers is part of a support group that is dealing with the grief of survivors coming to terms with all the people who vanished after Infinity War. The scene has two surprises. The first one is that it features a cameo from the director of the film, Joe Russo. The second one, as hinted above, is that it that Joe plays an openly gay man. His character in the film talks about how he is moving on from his loss and has started dating again. He then describes the emotional, tear-jerker of a date he had on a previous night with a man and adds that they are going out again.

Steve Rogers encourages this unnamed character to keep doing what he is doing. And that's all. That was the first openly gay character in the MCU. While speaking to Deadline, Joe said that representation is very important. “It was important to us as we did four of these films, we wanted a gay character somewhere in them. We felt it was important that one of us play him, to ensure the integrity and show it is so important to the filmmakers that one of us is representing that. It is a perfect time, because one of the things that is compelling about the Marvel Universe moving forward is its focus on diversity.” he said.

Joe Russo had been hinting for some time that we'd get to see LGBT representation in the MCU, quite soon, before the release of the film. Rumours are rife that MCU's next project, The Eternals, will feature an openly LGBT superhero, but confirmation is yet to drop.

Also, Tessa Thompson had said that her character, Valkyrie, in Thor: Ragnarok, was bisexual and there was a scene alluding at the same. But the said scene - a woman coming out of Valkyrie's bedroom - was cut from the film by director Taika Watiti. Speculations on the internet are rife that Captain Marvel, who was introduced with her solo superhero film earlier this year, is also gay.

We'd wait for MCU to include a stronger representation of the LGBT community before we celebrate.
