Oscar-winning film composer Andre Previn passed away on Thursday at his home in Manhattan. The composer was 89 as he breathed his last, confirmed his manager. The accomplished Jazz pianist had won four Academy Awards in his career. He won the first two Oscars, for best scoring of a musical picture, for Gigi and Porgy & Bess in 1958 and 1959. He then won two more Academy Awards for best adaptation or treatment 1963 and 1964 for Irma la Douce and My Fair Lady.
Previn also wrote songs and scores for such popular 50s films as Bad Day at Black Rock, Designing Women and Hot Summer Nights. The composer is known to have left a flourishing musical career in Hollywood to pursue classical music as a Jazz pianist.

Previn is known to have made classical recordings, starting in the 1950s, with the complete four-hand piano music of Mozart. He had also written songs for actresses such as Judy Garland and Doris Day.
