Tom Hardy's Venom is turning out to be a huge hit at the international box office, even though the movie ended up getting negative reviews. Venom, also starring Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed, is also doing good business in India too, beating even the Bollywood releases of the week, AndhaDhun and LoveYatri. Overseas, the movie has collected about $225 million within a week. So the next step that people expected was a sequel to Venom to be announced, since the post-credit scene, featuring Woody Harrelson's character hinted at that. However, Sony Pictures are now focusing on another Spider-Man spinoff, Morbius. Like Venom, Morbius is also considered as one of Spider-Man's biggest foes, albeit with a tragic backstory that makes him more of an anti-hero at times. A biochemist named Michael Morbius turns a living vampire when an experiment goes wrong (doesn't it always?) and gives him an insatiable blood-lust.
As per reports, Jared Leto will be playing the lead, thus hinting at his exit from playing the Joker in any Suicide Squad sequels, and will be directed by Daniel Espinosa of Life fame. Speaking to Collider, producer Avi Avrad confirmed that the shoot for the film will begin by February 2019. She also said, "This is the great thing for us now, that an actor like [Leto], and an actor like Tom [Hardy, who plays Venom] wanted to have their own character. But the character they love. Both of them, very hard to get them to do a movie. You actually cannot get them. We went in, we sat with them, and everybody told us, ‘Oh, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba.’ Nothing. That’s what he wanted to do."
There are speculations that unlike Venom, Morbius will go for an R-Rating and the movie will release in 2020.
