The Lok Sabha elections 2019 took off in seven phases from April 11 to May 19 in India. Punjabi folk and Sufi singer, Hans Raj Hans is one of the seven BJP candidates contesting for Delhi, who cast their votes on May 12. The results for Lok Sabha elections 2019 have now been announced and Hans Raj Hans who was contesting for the North West seat of Delhi from BJP has won with 8,47,737 votes. The singer was contesting against Congress' Rajesh Lilothia and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s Gugan Singh. The Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Gugan Singh Ranga trailed behind at the second position with 2,94,662 votes and Congress's Rajesh Lelothia received 2,36,803 votes. The singer first commenced his political career with Akali Dal in 2009 and also contested the elections from his hometown Jalandhar, where he lost. Later, he joined Congress in 2014 but after being denied a Rajya Sabha seat, he then switched again to join BJP in 2016.
He is a recipient of a Padma Shri award and popular face in the Punjabi music industry. Hans Raj Hans first shot to fame with his Sufi track, "Kanch diyan mundran'". Later, he got his big break in 1999, legendary singer, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan roped him for a song on a soundtrack he had composed for the Bollywood film, Kacche Dhage.
