Govinda reveals what exactly went wrong between him and David Dhawan

Govinda and David Dhawan created some good movies together, there are no two ways about it. The two collaborated for 17 movies, including some really memorable ones like Raja Babu, Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Jodi No.1 and Partner. Unfortunately, both of them had a fallout many years ago, which continues to date. On multiple occasions, Govinda has talked about his fight with David. Now, he has opened up a bit more on the same in a recent interview as the actor has revealed what exactly went wrong between them.

Govinda has said that unlike him, David's son and actor Varun Dhawan won't do 17 films with his father. "I do not think his son will ever do 17 films with him, because he is, after all, David Dhawan's son. He is educated. I never realised the meaning of doing 17 films with a director. It was Sanjay Dutt who told me to give work to a fellow Punjabi (David Dhawan). I used to give work to fellow Punjabis at that time. I liked David and did many hit films with him. I did not even treat my relatives as well as I treated him. Even with my brother, who is a director, I did not do 17 films,” he was quoted by India TV. Govinda's Avatar Revelation Has the Internet Going Crazy as Netizens Share Hilarious Memes.

Govinda also reveals that he gave the idea of Chashme Baddoor to David, but the latter ended up making that film with Rishi Kapoor. “When I completed 17 films with him, I told him the subject of Chashme Baddoor and he started the film with Rishi Kapoor. And when he was shooting the film, I called him and he said, 'Tu sun toh mein kaise film bana raha hoon.' Then I said, 'Tu mujhe kehta toh - subject bhi utha lia',” adds Govinda.

The final nail in the coffin was a cal that David made to Govinda's secretary, it seems as Govinda further says, “After I left politics, I told my secretary to keep the phone speaker on, so that I could listen to what he (David Dhawan) was saying. I heard David saying, 'Chi-Chi (Govinda's nickname) is questioning a lot.' He was telling my secretary, 'I do not want to work with Govinda anymore. Tell him to do some small bit roles.' This shocked me and I decided never to work with him. After 4-5 months, I again rang him up just to find out if he would give me a guest appearance in his film. He then never rang me back."

Govinda also said that why he is talking about this after so many years is because he thinks David is under somebody's influence. "I am revealing this in public after so many years. I think he is under somebody's influence. I do not think he is that same David Dhawan who I used to know,” he was further quoted. Well, as we said, David and Govinda did create magic on the screen. We really hope there comes a day when these two solve their differences and collaborate at the movies again.
