It was a long weekend, thanks to Independence Day following on a Thursday, so both John Abraham's Satyamev Jayate and Akshaya Kumar's Gold got ample time to woo the audience to the theatres and mint money at the box office. And as things stand on day 5, Akshay Kumar's movie, a sports drama with a hint of period charm to it, Gold is standing tall (er) by a certain margin when compared to John Abraham's vigilante movie. Bot the movies have collectively netted Rs 125 crore!

Film trade analyst and film pundit Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to explain the figures, the two big films, that clashed at the box office on the same day, managed to arrive at, as a unit. While it was predicted that Akki's film will have a better chance to score bigger at the ticket windows, it would be pertinent to note that Johny boy has not done bad at all with Satyamev Jayate!

Individually, while Gold minted Rs 71 crore after five days and after enjoying a big opening of Rs 22 crore on day 1 itself. The figures then dwindled at the ticket windows. Satyamev Jayate managed to rake in Rs 56 crore after day five. It would be only fair to note, as we make comparisons between the two movies, that while Akshay Kumar's movie was screened at 3,100 theatres, John and Manoj Bajpayee's film was allocated 2, 400 screens.

Quite interestingly, Gold has recorded Akki's biggest opening for day, his last biggest opening was Singh Is Bling (With Rs 16 crore) and John's biggest solo opening before this was Force 2.
