Saaho, featuring Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles, is minting good money at the box office, despite the majorly negative reviews from the film critics. On the day of the release, the movie was accused of plagiarism by an artist Shilo Shiv Suleman. The backdrop, colour palette and the content of one of the movie's posters uncannily matched Shilo's installations at a former Burning Man festival. The movie has courted a brand new plagiarism accusation from French director, Jérôme Salle. On Twitter, the director has said that Saaho is a "freemake" of his film, Largo Winch. Fans of the Indian film have of course come to defence under Salle's tweet. Salle first joked that he has a good career opportunity in India. But then on a serious note, he wrote, "It seems this second "freemake" of Largo Winch is as bad as the first one. So please Telugu directors, if you steal my work, at least do it properly? And as my "Indian career" tweet was of course ironic, I'm sorry but I'm not gonna be able to help. This won't be the first time when Jerome Salle has accused an Indian movie of lifting from his work. Pawan Kalyan's Agnyaathavasi, directed by Trivikram, was accused of being a frame by frame copy of Largo Winch by the Salle.
It will be interesting to see a statement from Saaho's makers. But it is more likely to happen that the issue will be brushed under the carpet with a PR-strategised silence. Anyway, the movie has earned Rs 79 crore on its opening weekend.
