Malayalam film industry is recently rocked by allegations of misogyny, especially over the recent controversy at AMMA over reinstate of Dileep. He was apparently accused of sexual harassment of an actress for which he is being tried. It is widely reported and discussed that seven actresses protested against that decision, clearly demonstrating their stand against sexism too. It was also questioned why veterans from the industry have been keeping mum over this, especially the much younger lot.
It is clear that everybody from the South Industry is keeping their guards on. And nobody wants to get embroiled in this controversy. Veteran actress Revathy also opined that young and popular stars are not saying anything about this. They are sitting back and watching. Dulquer Salmaan who is looking forward to the release of his forthcoming release, his Hindi (Bollywood) debut in fact, Kaarwaan featuring Mithila Palkar and Irrfan, decided to dispaly his stand on the issue.
In his interaction with the veteran film journalist and film critic Rajeev Masand, Dulquer Salman said, "Today it is very easy to have an opinion. It's been tricky, because all parties involved have been nice to me. I have known all of them since I was younger. I am not anybody to judge or pass judgment. I don't know if it is my space to be and voice my opinion. In India too many things are dividing us caste, religion and now sex is one of them. There are always going to be two sides and if I voice my opinion, I eventually be on either side. And I am saying this with total respect for women." he concluded.
