Dear Karan Johar, Shahid Kapoor Agrees With Kangana Ranaut That Bollywood Is in One of the Most Nepotistic Times
Is Shahid Kapoor siding with Rangoon co-star Kangana Ranaut against Karan Johar in the Bollywood nepotism debate? Well, his latest statement reveals insecurities in the Hindi film industry. Read on...
Kangana Ranaut created a storm when she called Karan Johar the flag bearer of nepotism in Bollywood. The actress’ portrayal of Karan as a mainstream Bollywood villain did not go down well with the filmmaker who penned an open letter and even went on to joke about it in one of his award show acts. Of course his accomplices Saif Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan in this nepotism joke faced backlash and had to apologise to Kangana later. Now Kangana’s Rangoon co-star Shahid Kapoor, who also comes from a filmi family has pointed fingers at the film industry. The actor in a recent interview, Shahid opened up about the insecure Hindi film industry and how Bollywood is in one of the most nepotistic times.
Shahid talked about being a private and simple person and the drawbacks of being in a relationship with people from the same fraternity. He also touched upon Bollywood and its closed circle. The Batti Gul Meter Chalu hero said, “ I also think this is a profession which is largely driven by insecurity and so this need to feed off each other and live just amongst each other also comes from a certain sense of... you know wanting to make a group and make it all about each other. ‘If I go wrong help me’ that mind set I think woh hota hai. And uski waja sey and that’s why you get limited without knowing it and you know insecurities always limits you as a human being. When you let go of your insecurities, I think lot more comes to you. And universe throws a lot more at you to experience life in a larger way. And I am happy to see that I think today it is not that small as it used to be.”
The actor also went on to touch upon the subject of nepotism, which is often referred to as Kangana Ranaut’s territory. He said, “We are also in one of the most nepotistic times that we have been in. Everybody who has anything to do with an actor or a producer or a director kind of tries to become an actor and there is a lot less access to people who are not from within the fraternity. Honestly, social media hasn’t really helped that. The people who tend to get noticed are the people who happen to be somebody of a celebrity therefore you are in the limelight. So, it’s a big contradiction.”
Having completed a decade and half in the industry, Shahid feels that he’s in a better space now, “I have felt like I don’t have to be best friends with everybody in this industry. I can actually have people who I genuinely get along with and I can be myself with them.”
We wonder what Karan Johar has to say about Shahid’s comments.
