Daler Mehndi, the iconic singer who has been enthralling the Indian audience for decades with his energetic numbers that invariably find themselves on the top of chartbusters, turns 51 today. The Punjabi singer was born on 18th August 1967 in Punjab and was drawn to the world of music from a very young age. It will be fair to say that the singer has done a lot to bring the world of bhangra closer to Bollywood. Bolo Tara Ra
The song in the album released of the same name in 1995 went a long way in shaping up the career of the same. Na Na Na Re
The 1997 movie Mrityudata starring Amitabh Bachchan had Daler Mehndi in a cameo appearance featuring his song Na Na Na Re. The song strike a chord with the audience its popularity hit such a peak that in a way it even overshadowed the movie. The concept of a Bhangra star being part of a film too was totally new, and clearly the producers knew why they wanted the hit singer in their project.
Tunak Tunak Tun
Pained by the critics who had been accusing Daler Mehndi who had accused him of using fancy girls and props to make his song popular, the singer came up with Tunak Tunak Tun in 1998 that had only him in four different avatars. The song was blockbuster and the sight of Daler Mehndi in different coloured attire grooving became synonymous with Bhangra industry in India at the time.
Rang De Basanti
The title track of the movie Rang De Basanti still gives us goosebumps and instils nationalistic pride in every Indian. Dangal
Another run away classic by the maestro, Dangal became synonymous with India’s sporting victories and achievements due to the intense prominence it enjoyed in media.
