Harvey Weinstein’s sexual harassment controversy shook the world, giving the citizens the much needed #MeToo movement. Around 70 women pressed allegations against the Hollywood producer of the sexual abuse. Shockingly, four of the incidents have been registered in Cannes Film Festival itself. Post this, the prestigious film fest organisers have decided to set up a helpline for the safety of the guests according to the recent media reports. In fact, Marlene Schiappa, France’s gender equality minister, appreciated the move and stated that the guests would be warned to show dignity at the event.

As reported in zoom, Schiappa added, “We've gone into partnership with the Cannes Film Festival to tackle sexual harassment and set up a helpline. One of the rapes that Harvey Weinstein is accused of happened at Cannes, and so the festival cannot fail to act.” Harvey also allegedly raped a 21-year-old Italian actress Asia Argento at Cannes Film Festival. All such incidents and the rage amongst the global citizens have led the management to take this positive step.

Talking about India, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will show their regular presence at the event. However, this will be the first time that Queen actress Kangana Ranaut will also make her debut on the significant red-carpet appearance. The curly haired actress is in talks with various international designers for her big day. She will walk as the brand ambassador of Grey Goose. The three-time-national award winner will also speak about global cinema and status of women in films. We hope that the initiative taken by the Cannes officials will help the event run smoothly this year.
