Zero: Why Shah Rukh Khan's Box Office Performance Since 2010 Is Making Us Anxious About His Upcoming Film!

There is a reason why Shah Rukh Khan is called King Khan. There was a time when he not only used to rule the hearts of his fans (which he still does) but also the box office. He has delivered some very memorable hits in the past like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Chak De India, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Don, Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om etc. - hits that still have recall value. A trait that I don't believe some of the recent blockbusters possesses. Now that Zero is coming out, people are expecting the film to sail at the box office on his star power. Unfortunately, things are not what it was before. Zero: Beware Shah Rukh Khan Fans! It's 2018 now and there has been a big shuffling in the star rankings. While Shah Rukh Khan's popularity and fan craze continue to remain unaffected, the same cannot be said about his box office standing. Shah Rukh Khan has not been able to deliver a true-blue blockbuster for the last couple of years, while his last film, Jab Harry Met Sejal, was a huge disaster. Among the triumvirate of Khans, he is the only one not to have a Rs 300 crore grosser. Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero in Fresh Trouble for ‘Insulting’ Physically Disabled Women- Read Deets.

Meanwhile, his biggest rivals, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, are doing much better than him. Even their 'flops' like Tubelight, Race 3 and Thugs of Hindostan made more than Rs 100 crore at the box office. Here's looking at how much Shah Rukh Khan's films have performed at the box office since 2010. Not counting movies that have him in special appearances as in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil!

So in the past eight years and 11 films, Shah Rukh Khan has one blockbuster, six hits (?) and above all, two big flops. Not exactly a great report card for the superstar. With audience showing less tolerance for star power and showing more affinity for plot-driven movies (Stree, AndhaDhun, Badhaai Ho, Raazi), it will take more than SRk's undeniable charm and Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma's box office appeal to make it a super-hit. The movie might take a huge opening, but the reviews and the word-of-mouth drive should be stronger for Zero to sustain at the box office.

Zero is an important film for Shah Rukh Khan and December 21 will determine if the law of averages works in favour of him. No pressure, King Khan, no pressure at all!
