No, we are not saying here that one trailer is good and one is bad. Personally, I enjoyed both the trailers of Thugs of Hindostan and Zero for different reasons. When Thugs of Hindostan trailer came out, I liked the huge canvas on which the movie was mounted, the allure of seeing a pirate action drama and of course, Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan pairing up for the first time. However, the trailer was also met with criticism from some quarters, and it has not just something to do with being a Pirates of the Caribbean rip-off! Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan Fails to Beat This Record of Prabhas’ Baahubali 2.
One of the biggest criticisms of Thugs of Hindostan trailer was the lack of focus on the female leads. While Aamir and Amitabh hogged much of the action, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh had to be content with themselves with mere glimpses and not a single dialogue. At least, Fatima gets to do some action a la Wonder Woman. Poor Katrina's character felt like an extension of her Chikni Chameli act. The songs that came out later, Suraiyya and Manzoor-e-Khuda, did little to change that opinion.

Now let's talk about the Zero trailer. While Shah Rukh Khan's vertically challenged character remains the USP of the film as well as the mainstay, the trailer finds enough spotlight to give to its female leads, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. Anushka Sharma was the real surprise here, as the promotions till recently avoided giving out her look from the film. Playing a scientist who suffers from cerebral palsy, Anushka has a sweet romance going on with SRK's Bauua Singh. Then Katrina's Kaif's character swaggers in with style and attitude, and she steals the show thereon! Though she has lesser dialogues to say, Katrina makes quite an impression with her expressions (surprise) and her swag!

Sure, both Thugs of Hindostan and Zero trailers are dominated by the male presence. However, when it comes to Bechdel test, Zero scores more marks than Thugs and passes the same with first class!
