Emraan Hashmi's newest release Why Cheat India has failed miserably at the Indian box office. Despite creating good buzz before the release, the film got off to a slow start on day 1 and since then has been faring poorly at the ticket windows. Why Cheat India, which is directed by Soumik Sen, released on January 11 and raked in merely Rs 1.70 crore on its opening day. But the film saw an upward trend over the first weekend and ended up earning Rs 6.80 crore in the first three days. Why Cheat India Box Office Collection Day 1: Emraan Hashmi Starrer Off to a Dull Start, Rakes in Rs 1.71 Crore.

However, Why Cheat India couldn't sustain itself on the weekdays and therefore its total collection so far is only Rs 8.50 crore in India as per BoxOfficeIndia.com.

Further, the BoxOfficeIndia report states, "Why Cheat India had a poor first week as it collected 8.50 crore nett and is the worst performing Emraan Hashmi film in the last 10 years barring Rush in 2012. The film had a poor start and limited growth over the weekend and it fell flat on Monday. The way this film has gone over the weekdays it is unlikely that it will cross the 10 crore nett mark as it has very few screenings in the second week." Apart from Emraan's film, Arshad Warsi starrer Fraud Saiyaan, Govinda's Rangeela Raja and Radhika Apte's Bombairiya also hit the theatres on January 18. Sadly, none of them found an audience and were absolute washouts at the box office with Fraud Saiyaan performing better than the rest.
